‘Tis the season for warmer layers, pumpkin spiced lattes and, of course, nature’s reveal of the annual fall foliage.

While it might be hard to let go of those longer days and warmer temperatures, the fall brings with it all the coziness and comfort of a transitional season, preparing us for the deep chill of the winter months ahead. The only downside to this season is it's short shelf life - so to help ensure you make the most of all that autumn has to offer, we’re letting you in on where to catch the most beautiful display of fall colours in the city.

Trinity Bellwoods

A year-round favorite amongst locals, Trinity Bellwoods offers endless options for getting active outdoors and taking part in one of the city’s most popular park spaces. Easily accessed via walking, biking or public transportation, locals can skip the drive (and save on the gas!) when making their way over, thanks to the park being situated conveniently between Dundas and Queen street.

The tree-lined rows and scenic views of not only the city’s picturesque skyline, including the iconic CN Tower mean this park is a great place to capture the perfect fall photos set against one of Toronto’s best backdrops.

High Park

You can’t make a definitive list of Toronto parks for any reason and not include one of the city’s most beloved park destinations. For obvious reasons, High Park’s lush and sprawling mecca of green space is the ideal arena to indulge in the fall colours. The views of the trees in all their glory is especially breathtaking in the early morning, when the lake offers a mirrored, glass-like reflection of the surrounding foliage.

Coronation park

Situated along the waterfront, this popular local park offers plenty of shade throughout the day, which makes it a top pick for avid fall foliage photographers, who will get their best shots in this light. Plan your visit for early morning to avoid the seasonal crowds and to capture the lovely “shadow play” effect amongst the trees and lake.

Scarborough Bluffs

Located just outside of city lines, the Scarborough Bluffs are still close enough to make our list! This park destination always offers a change of scenery that has visitors feeling as though they are someplace else entirely, what with the sprawling landscapes and dramatic blue water vistas. Pack a picnic and set up shop along the beach or on one of the many trails, where you can take in the full beauty of the surrounding foliage.

Evergreen Brick Works

One of the city’s most beloved local gems, Evergreen Brick Works is an area demonstrative of community spirit and the power in making something old new again. The former quarry is situated in an area enveloped by lush trails, naturalized ponds - and of course, spectacular skyline views.

You can catch the best fall foliage views from the Don Valley Brickworks Park Lookout and the Governor’s Bridge Lookout, but really, this whole area is primed for spectacular seasonal hikes and fall photo ops!

Allen Gardens

Plan for a picnic under the overhead canopies of autumnal colours, or wander along the conservatory’s pathways to take in the beauty of Allen Gardens fall foliage.

Expert tip: track the autumnal rainbow like a pro with the Ontario Parks fall colours official tracker.

Apart from the seasonal colours, you’ll want to be sure not to miss all the fun festivals and activities happening around the city.

Here are just a few ways to enjoy all the season has to offer:

1. Attend a Local Farmers Market

A farmer’s market is a great way to get outdoors and support local growers and vendors. Call up a few friends or pack the family into the car and make a day of it!

You can find a comprehensive list of local farmers markets, including details on accessibility and hours of operation here.

2. Albion Hills Conservation Area

There are no shortage of fall-themed activities to take part in this season at Albion Hills Conservation Area, from fun and informative Survival Skills courses to Fall Colours at Kortright and even Halloween at the Village. You can find more details on these and other local events within the area via their official calendar

3.Visit A Pumpkin Patch

Halloween is just around the corner, and what better way to celebrate the spookiest of seasons than with a family outing to a local pumpkin patch. Pick out your best pumpkin and have a carving party at home or with friends. Many of the local pumpkin patches also offer seasonal activities for kids and adults alike, including hayrides, petting farms, crafts and delicious foods on-site. Check out this comprehensive list from Toronto.com for everything you need to know about popular pumpkin patches like Chudleigh’s and Downey’s Farm and Market

4.Check out the Autumn Toronto Skyline From Toronto Island

Toronto Islands Park offers stunning views of the Toronto Skyline. Apart from the area’s many activities, lush gardens, pretty piers, bike-friendly paths and shady pockets ideal for picnics, this spot is well-known for its skyline views, particularly in autumn, when the seasonal colouring adds to the picturesque effect.

FYI: if you’re currently in search of your next home (or are considering a move), learning about community offerings, including things like seasonal events and the local park scene, are important elements to consider when factoring in the livability of your top neighbourhoods of interest.
